Ever get new car envy so much so that wish you could modernize your existing car’s body/features/etc? I typically don’t share my drawings outside of FB/twitter, so this is my first time sharing (that I can recall) on any Kinja site...

Hmmm, this is a great Idea.

I’ve sketched out new headlights and taillights for my F-150 before to see if they’d look any good with some of the ‘15 lighting elements. So yes, I have new truck envy

I was thinking about this the other day when I noticed some terrible looking projector/led conversion lamps on a Tacoma and thinking “there must be a way to actually design something that fits in those whole that actually looks good, but what a massive effort for a single person to undertake.”

There's plenty of retrofit shops that'll do something like that for you, but if you wanted to do it yourself, a good starting point would be The Retrofit Source. Plus there's tons of forums with threads on retrofitting heads and tails.

well, more than just fitting something in there, I mean redesigning the housing to fit the new technology, and blend into the existing design. There are plenty of places that will modify the housing to fit the new technology but it just looks terrible.

Exactly, that’s why you do it yourself. A guy that was on my SAE Baja team retrofitted his higlander’s headlights and they looked really good cause they weren't overdone. He just painted the reflective housing black and then put in projectors and black panamera shrouds. Granted, a lot of time and effort went into that so I see what you're saying.
